About me

Hi my name is Jacques and I make photos

-A brief history-

I was born in Geleen in the very south of the Netherlands in 1962. I'm currently based in Portugal. After high school I went to teachers college in Nijmegen where I discovered that I would not be a good teacher, so I quit. I traveled for a while and had various jobs until I started a construction company. After some years I sold that business and moved to Sweden and bought a farm. I lived on the farm for many years. It was a dream come true, until I woke up one day and wished for a new dream. I left the farm and started walking. I walked for seven months, mainly in France, Spain, and Portugal. After those seven months I settled near Lisbon and went on walking to give my new dreams an opportunity to meet me.

This is what I believe

-Beauty is all around us-

Wherever we are, we see things. And whatever we see contains beauty, even ugly scenes in bad light. You have probably already noticed that I often see the beauty in birds. I have loved birds as long as I can remember. Birds, like beauty, are all around us. Always. I also believe it is stimulating for the mind to get outside of this comfortable, feathery world. Try other, different things. Start fresh projects and view things from new angles. As a matter of fact, I believe doing that every once in awhile would benefit everyone, not only me.

This is what I do

-I do many different things-

I spent most of my time on photography. Often looking for a new appraoch. It doesn't mean that I will make my best photo tomorrow (my aim is to do that today) but it will be a different photo, a photo that I cannot envision right now. My work is about making discoveries every day and it is pretty exciting.

Exept for that I work as a bird photography guide, I do construction work when an interesting opportunity knocks on my door, and I walk several months a year. Walking without tools or camera, just walking.
